Chile prepares important promoting activity in China
From August 21st to 28th, a public-private delegation will visit China to commemorate the 45 years of diplomatic relations with our biggest trading partner up-to-date. In this context, China organized “Chile Week 2015“, an event planned by the General Directorate of International Economic Relations of the Ministry of External Relations (DIRECON), along with other ministries and institutions around the country. The celebration will consist of more than 30 promoting activities in the fields of tourism and investment generation.
Chile Week’s official kickoff was held last Monday at the residence of the Ambassador of China in our country, Li Baorong, along with former President Eduardo Frei, Extraordinary Ambassador and Plenipotentiary on special mission for the Asian-Pacific region since 2014; Alberto Undurraga, Minister of Public Works; Claudio Ternicier, Undersecretary of agriculture; Andrés Rebolledo, General Director of DIRECON, and many other associations that will be part of the delegation.
Chile Week seeks to become Chile’s showcase in two of the major cities of China, Shanghai and Beijing, and they promote and transmit the history, tradition, culture, goods and services, and investment opportunities that Chile offers to one of the most attractive markets in the Asian-Pacific region.
It is important to point out that Chile was the first country in South America to establish diplomatic relations with China (1970); It was also the first Latin American country to support China’s access to the World Trade Organization (1999); and the first in Latin America to recognize China as a market economy(2004). Moreover, Chile was the first country in the region with whom China signed a Free Trade Agreement (2005), and the first to give their support to China’s entry to the negotiations done in the Trade in Services Agreement (TISA).
